A remote northern province, established in 1999, Nunavut is Canada's most sparsely populated territory. This is a cold and deserted region, the capital of which is the city of Iqaluit. There are no roads in this region. All vehicles are dog teams, skid or boats. To cities and major settlements can only be reached by helicopter and small aircraft. It is home to 32 thousand indigenous people - Inuit and Eskimos.
It seemed a harsh end of the world, where polar bears roam, and soak on the ice of a walrus, how can it surprise you? But the region is really fantastically beautiful. Inuit culture is rich in tradition and history. What are the most impressive adventures awaiting you in this remote region of the Arctic?
1
Eskimo Village Resolute
The settlement, in which a little more than two hundred people live (mostly Eskimos), is located on the very edge of the endless Arctic desert of Cornwallis. In 1955, all the Quebec Eskimos were resettled on this island and created a settlement for them, as a result of which they became sharply dependent on government decisions.
To create jobs in the settlement, events were organized for travelers. In Resolute, all roads are gravel. The houses are located randomly, and there are only about a hundred of them. In the village there is a shop, a hotel with 100 beds and several houses that host guests. The most exciting attraction for visitors is dog sledding. The airport, located in the center of the settlement, receives helicopters and airplanes.

Hot air balloon flight over the Arctic
It is best to explore the beauty of the Arctic from the air. Not everyone can afford to rent helicopters; they are noisy in operation and scare away with a bang all the animals in the area. Balloons remain one of the popular means of transportation by air. They are economical, easy to use and absolutely environmentally friendly.
From the basket of the balloon you can observe the life of polar bears, see the beauty and power of glaciers. You can fly silently over the water. Experienced guides do everything to ensure that the flight is safe and as interesting as possible. And the photos from the balloon will remain the most beloved for life.

Devon Island, Nunavut
Devon is Canada’s largest island in the Arctic. An ancient Houghton Crater is located on this island. About 40 thousand years ago, a huge celestial body fell here - a meteorite, which formed a crater with a diameter of 70 km. Previously, there was a lake at the crash site, now the fantastic landscape of the crater resembles a desert rocky Martian landscape. The island with its lack of flora and fauna attracts scientists involved in the study of Mars. This is where the testing of the equipment that they plan to send to Mars is being tested. The island can be visited only in the summer, as even in summer the average air temperature does not exceed + 8 ° С.

Finger cocktail
At the end of a trip to Nunavut, you can try another exotic adventure not for the faint of heart. One of Dawson's bars serves an unusual Sourtoe Cocktail alcoholic cocktail, invented by chance in 1973. He became a bright advertising sign for both the bar and the city itself.
By the way, fans of unusual bars should be interested in looking at the coolest underground bars in the world.
One of the visitors decided to make fun of his friends and threw a frostbitten toe into one of them in a glass with a drink. Now using a real, dried, amputated, human big toe! It is served with a drink on a hill of salt. Before using the drink, a finger is thrown into a glass. The same finger has been used many times, but the demand for this extreme cocktail does not decrease.
But we will not intentionally publish the image of this finger and the drink itself. Our site is still called most-beauty, which does not combine with photographs of old human limbs.
